3. Replicas Of The World’s First Automobile Are Being Sold By Auctions With High Prices.
More than a century after Karl Benz patented his invention, Mercedes-Benz Classic built several replicas of the Patent Motor Car as a tribute to this milestone in automotive history.
The replicas were made as display pieces for museums and showrooms in various parts of the world. A couple of them were sold to the public at auctions.

Daimler-Benz commissioned John Bentley and Sons Engineering to produce Benz Patent-Motorwagen replicas in 1986. Until the UK-based firm went out of business in 2016, they had manufactured several copies.
A buyer paid $56,000 for a replica of the first car at an international auction house, Bonhams, in 2019.
Another Motorwagen version was sold for $40,000 on a live auction online at Bring A Trailer in 2020.
Another copy of the first automobile changed hands for $70,000 at car auction house RM Sotheby’s in 2021.
As of April 2023, Vintage and Prestige Fine Motor Cars offers a Benz Motorcar replica for sale at £42,300.
